White Villages

The ubiquitous Pueblos Blancos

An itinerary of Andalucia should include at least one pueblo blanco.

From Granada, Cordoba, Ronda or Jerez, you are never far from a white village.

Pueblos blancos – white villages, a trademark of Andalucia. Each of the 8 provincias vie for their exclusive rights to the ‘white villages’ denomination, but the truth is that most villages in the whole of Andalucia are… white. Some of them are perched on the side of the mountain, some are overlooked by a rock castle, some resemble the Berber villages on the other side of Mediterranean.

They share the whitewashed tinge, great village markets/ feasts and … very long siesta hours. Whatever the case, they are a great addition to a private tour of Andalucia, especially as an outing for a day trip from a city. Some examples include: Gaucin from Malaga, Zuheros from Cordoba or Capileira or Moclin from Granada. Most of them come with steep alleys, so a minimum of fitness is required, more so under the sweltering Andalusian sunshine. If desired, they greatly complement a half a day or a full day trekking tour.
